Search Passports - By Last Name, All Roles
This page allows you to search by last name (all spelling variations) to find USA passport applications relating to citizens of Armenian descent. The form used for a passport application was based upon how that person claimed citizenship: (1) native-born, (2) naturalized, or (3) by spouse or parent (who was a citizen). Starting around 1915, most passport applications were accompanied by a photo of the person or persons applying for the passport. The passport forms could include the names of several different roles - the applicant, his/her parent, his/her spouse, and their children. This page allows you to search on individuals in any of these roles, by surname, to find entries relating to Armenian immigrants to North America through 1930.
This database table currently represents just a few of the communities in North America where Armenian immigrants can be found. The records abstracted are those where the images of the passport documents are available online. As more of these images become available, and as time permits, I will continue to expand the scope of this coverage. Volunteers are graciously providing assistance in transcribing records from other Armenian settlement communities.

Names on the passport forms were extremely variable in spelling (although more consistent than Ship Manifests and Censuses). Most are phonetic equivalents to the original Armenian names, but some are quite difficult to reconcile to a known Armenian last name.Be sure to also search using the query Search Passports - By Last Name (Std.), All Roles, which combines all spelling variations for a last name, its phonetic equivalents, and anglicized versions to a standardized spelling.
