Search Births - By Last Name (Std.)
This page allows you to search on a standardized last name to find births relating to Armenians in North America.
An important feature of the birth certificates is that they usually provide the maiden name of the mother. Many also list the place of birth of the parents. In many of those cases, the birth place is simply stated as Armenia or Turkey. However, occasionally a more specific place of birth is given. Sometimes, this is the only remaining record showing a specific birth place for one of the parents. And some places, like the province of Ontario, Canada, list the date and place of the parents' marriage. For Mexico, the administrative division of municipality (municipio) is equivalent to county in USA and Canada.
This database table currently represents just a few of the communities in North America where Armenian immigrants can be found. The records abstracted are those where the images of the birth registers or the certificates themselves are available online. As more of these images become available, and as time permits, I will continue to expand the scope of this coverage. Volunteers are graciously providing assistance in transcribing records from other Armenian settlement communities.

Names on the birth certificates were often variable in spelling. Most are phonetic equivalents to the original Armenian names, but some are quite difficult to reconcile to a known Armenian last name. The drop-down list to the right of the label "Last Name (Std.)" includes all standardized last names in the database for certificates abstracted so far. If you can't find the name you are looking for in that list, click the "Find a Std. Name" button to take you to the Std. Name Lookup page. It will let you map your last name of interest (as recorded in the birth certificates) to a standardized last name in the database, returning you to this page and executing the search query with that name. In the result table below, click the "view" icon to the left of the table entry to see the information abstracted from that record.
